Visit of NATO SG special representative for Caucasus and Central Asia to Armenia

NATO is intending to deepen cooperation with Armenia, said NATO Secretary General’s Special representative for Central Asia and Caucasus James Appathurai at meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday.

Appathurai said that he has Secretary General’s instruction to deepen the well-established cooperation, adding that he is intended to ensure this in his new position.

Special representative expressed gratitude on behalf of NATO to for the participation of Armenia’s armed forces in the operations of the Alliance in Afghanistan and Kosovo. He also praised the proactive steps the Armenia’s President aimed at settlement of political relationship with its neighbors and implementation of ongoing reforms in the country.

In the context of establishing a mutual beneficial cooperation between Armenia and NATO, President Sargsyan stressed the importance of effective realization of Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) Armenia – NATO. He expressed hope that the updated IPAP 2011 will soon be approved, taking the mutual cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

The sides discussed the results of Kazan meeting and exchanged opinions on the settlement of Karabakh conflict.

 

 

RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan hosted NATO special representative to the South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai. Military cooperation between NATO and Armenia was discussed.

The sides noted with pleasure that Armenia-NATO military cooperation was developed successfully and includes peace-keeping, military trainings, protection reforms and so on.
